A little of this...a little of that....

This past weekend found me in a "crafty" sorta mood.  For some reason, each year around mid-August I begin to think "Fall"...and as school fast approaches I'm more than willing to pack up hot summer and enjoy a nice, long, FALL, and this year has been no different.

Along with dreaming of cool days, I found myself "re-organizing" things.  Of course, my kid's are sure I have ADHD, but I assure them I don't! lol  Organization just comes natural to me.  It fits me like a glove.  It's in my blood....and it's something that I find myself doing, without realizing it.

As I settled into my Saturday afternoon, I  worked on some projects I'd like to share with you.

First, thanks to my friend Christy from Between Here and Home I made this:

Half of the fun of making this was finding the deals to make it.

*Paper- $0.50
*wood-$3.00
*letter-$1.00

The best part was the stand.  I found it at a floral shop for $21.99 on clearance for $2.00.  What a great find.  I also had the paint and adhesive, so this truly was a cheap project to make.
According to Christy, this is a 5 minute project...humm...it took me longer than that, so I'm guessing she's super quick. :-)

Next, the Nester, from the Nesting Place has inspired me with the notion that I can make curtains without sewing.  Who would of thunk?  She actually calls them "mistreatment", and they are simply creative and beautiful.  Here's my first crack at my "mistreatment":

If you look real close at the curtains you will immediately see a problem.  But wait, to the Nester, this would just be another opportunity for "mistreatment"!  I ran out a fringe!  Oh NO!  I'm still thinking about what I could use.  Perhaps tassels??  Any ideas.

This was another great project to make cheap.  My fabric store had the toile for 30%, so my cost way:

*toile  $6.00
*fringe $5.80
*tacks $2.00
Not bad for under $14.00 and I think they look perfect.

Then, to top everything off I made this yummy breakfast dish that will certainly be a keeper around our house.

Breakfast Pizza
1-pkg. 8 oz Crescent Rolls
6 oz. breakfast sausage or turkey
1-C hash browns
3 Tbsp. of butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1-C Shredded cheese
3-4 eggs

Arrange dough into a pizza shape, or, I just make a square pizza too.  Brown the meat, adding hash browns.  Once cooked arrange onto of dough.  Melt the butter, add eggs and scramble with the salt and pepper.  Once eggs are finished, arrange on meat/hash brown mixture.  Next, spred the cheese.

Bake for 20 minutes on 350 degrees.  It's quick, and easy.

And last, but not least a new recipe I found for Rhubarb.  I'm a HUGE Rhubarb fan and this was a hit as well.  Especially with ice cream.

Strawberry Rhubarb Cobble

6-C. sliced Rhubarb
1/2 C. sugar
1 pkg. 3 oz strawberry gelatin
1-pkg. 9 oz Yellow cake mix (Jilly)
1/2 C. Unsalted butter
3/4 C. water
2 Tsp. powdered sugar
whipping cream

Grease/flour a 13X9 pan.

Place rhubarb in pan sprinkle with sugar.  Then sprinkle gelatin over rhubarb.  Next,  sprinkle the cake mixture over top of rhubarb.  Drizzle with 3/4 C. water, and stir in melted butter.

Bake for 50 minutes on 350 degrees.

Serve warm.  Add powdered sugar and whip cream.

Have you been working on any fun projects?

  2. Hi Kim, I'm Joy. Christy's inspiration for her five minute project came from a little project I did. It's great to see that you were inspired by her. I hope yours inspires others.

  4. I love toile--I need to get some into my house! Tassels or maybe buttons would work to cover the gaps on the end.

  5. Kim,

You did some great work, my friend. I need to get in and do some organizing. I'm not quite there though.

I think you did just as good of a job on your mistreatment as the nester. I've seen hers, also.

Thanks for sharing all your goodies.

    Have a great week.

I guess we're getting into some fall-like weather. It's been raining for all day. But we needed it.

  7. Okay Kim. I am completely impressed. Those are great projects and they all look great! Good job. Now, can you come over and help - those things look like fun. I really need a new curtain for my kitchen. :)

  8. Kim~

You were busy! I love all the projects!

The "B" looks GREAT and I want a stand like that. Don't you just love those little lamps? I have one in my kitchen too.

Way to go on the "mistreatment"! I say definitely go with the tassel idea... fun:) Okay, we have the same toile, and the same red & cream canister. I have one for tea, one for my utensils, and a couple of big ones that I use for different things. That's not all, I also have the same little calender that is sitting in your window. How funny!

And finally, what yummy recipes. I've had that breakfast dish before and it was so good because I think sometimes those egg casseroles have the tendency to be dry. This one isn't at all. Can't go wrong with those crescent rolls.

    Thanks for sharing your projects!

    Have a great day!

  11. I LOVE the toile! It really makes it cute! You could try a couple of tassels from the craft department or some greenery for a little bit of contrast.

  12. I'm not so sure about the tassles. They may hang down too far. I would say a really unique, antiqued button or maybe something like a knot...if they make such a thing...maybe something near the tassles. In my head I'm thinking of either yarn/thread/rope that is knotted. Maybe there isn't anything but I would go for something on each corner that doesn't hang past it.

    Make sure you show us!!

    I love crafts and crafting.
