The State Fair Anyone

This past Monday, Ashley and I ventured out on our own to attend the MN State Fair. Mind you, I'm not really a State Fair type of girl, I much rather visit a small town Country Fair anyday, but since we live in the city, this one will have to do.

One positive note about attending a Fair is the "great" people watching. It never ceases to amaze me the things you see/don't want to see but do at the Fair.

It didn't take me long to discover:

a. I do dress rather stylish

b. I don't look to bad

c. I'm thankful for your bloodline lol

d. I am rather thin.. :-)

Of course, there were plenty of opportunities for Ashley to either:

a. grab my arm

b. whisper quietly in my ear, "Mom"

She did each of the above because I do get rather annoyed by:

a. people who for some reason, decide to stop smack dab in the middle of the walk way and just..stand there. No worries, I don't mind waiting...and waiting..until you can decide if you want ANOTHER pronto pup, or if you want to go see the cows?

b. people who are ....how shall I say, under dressed. (why is it you NEVER see someone overdressed at the Fair?)

I did have a dicussion with a close friend recently and she had a great idea for a booth that should be at every fair. Are you ready for this???

A BRA booth! Seriously. Don't laught....I'm sure I'm not alone in this thought!!!??

However, I did come up with a reason as to why so many woman are bra-less at the Fair. Consider this thought; with the price of admission, I can totally understand why a woman may need to make the following decision. Humm...let's see, do I:

a. buy a new bra

of

b. save the money so I can pay to get into the fair?

Seriously ladies. What in the world is wrong with people???

All kidding aside, we had a fun time...just the two of us..out on a little adventure before Ashley packs up and leaves for Maui again..in oh....say...11 days.

Here we are...getting ready to leave. Yes, you will notice, I'm in jean capri's, a sweetshirt because I know it will get cold during the evening; and Ashley..sweet Ashley is in a dress!! Of to be 19 again! sigh :-/

Here Ashley is holding the bucket of Sweet Martha cookies that are a must. Don't even ask how many cookies the two of us HAD to eat just so we could get the lid on! Oh my.....but they were yummy!

Here we are sitting at a concert. I'm not a huge Country Western Fan; but since Ashley boss bought her two tickets, in the 6th row (yes...we were THAT close to the stage) we couldn't say no.

Here's another shot of the two of us..well into the concert. I did recongize a few of the songs...and my heart certainly was pained as the reality of just "how lost" people really are. There was such a depth of "lostness" (is that a word) in what the singers shared....there was NO hope....and my heart certainly sensed a lot of pain in those attending.

I was so amazed to watch people going crazy.....jumping up and down, hands frailin' in the air...all for a country western singer. OH..if the church....could ONLY get this excited about our Lord and Savior! We. the believer's, have SO much to be going crazy about....so much to be jumping up and down, hands frailin' in the air.....about!!!

Aside from all the "things" that were NOT so appealing about the fair, I truly had the BEST time. Why, because I was "blessed beyond measure" to be able to spend the day/evening with Ash! She truly is a gem....and I'll hold tight to the memories of the State Fair this year, during the month ahead when she's gone. I'll hold tight to the funny things she said, the funny things we saw, and the funny things we laughed at...during those days, when I miss her like crazy!!

You are one AMAZING young lady Ashley!! Thanks for choosing ME...to take to the concert!! I LOVE ya girly!

  1. Looks like the two of you had a lot of fun together. And...in the end, creating mother/daughter memories is really all that matters in your trip to the Fair.

    So...who played at the concert?????

  2. You both look gorgeous at the fair! Your bra comment reminded me of a few years ago when I went to Crossroads Chapel at the fair to hear KTIS broadcasting live. There was a woman sitting in the front row, wearing a white t-shirt, braless! Seriously! And, yesterday at the fair I asked my son if he felt like he stuck out while he was holding my chocolate covered bacon. He looked at me and said, "Mom, I don't think it would be possible for ME to stand out at the fair." :-)

  3. oh how fun! I'm sure you both were two of the "hippest" young-uns out there. Sounds like you had sooo much fun and who cares how many cookies you had to eat to get the lid on the bucket! I'm looking forward to going to our State Fair--the food alone is great! fried this and fried that.

  5. Truly spending the day with Ashley was definitely worth spending the day at the fair. That's the only way I'd go too, just to spend time with someone I love, the other stuff I could live without, although the Sweet Martha cookies might be worth going for, if only for a moment.

  6. What a blessing your day at the fair truly was...
It's true the fair brings out all walks of life... I am praising the Lord today that you can recognize the "lost ones" in our world. I agree... I wish folks would go as crazy for Jesus as they do the idols of this fallen world.

  8. You are so precious! Thank you for those sweet words of encouragement and also for your prayers. Know that I'll be lifting you and your family, as well.

How I loved reading about your state fair adventure with your beautiful Ash! Definitely a sweet memory to tuck away in your heart.

I think your friend is definitely onto something with that bra-booth idea. ; ) And you're right, if only we Christians would get so excited about the Lord...

    Thank you again, sweet friend.

  9. How fun to see some pictures of you together!

Ashley is absolutely beautiful and I know how very proud of her you are. I look forward to hearing more about her.

I love to people watch too. What you experienced at the fair is exactly why we don't go! I was out running errands today and I think the people you encountered at the fair ended up in Ohio somehow.

Thanks for sharing your time with Ashley!

  10. Thanks for sharing that. Great photos and wonderful words to your daughter. How precious.

I agree with the whole bra-less thing. Come on. I've rarely seen any woman who can truly pull that off. Usually the boobs are fake and it's with one of those tank shirts that have somewhat of an sports bra lining it.

The post was really funny with your comments about money to get it and especially about never seeing anyone overdress at the fair.
    Blessings,
    Paula

  12. Did you say Ashley is your daughter somewhere in there? Hmmm, you two look like you could be sisters. She's only 19 and WOW! Gorgeous! What a blessing. Thanks for sharing, parts of this post make me laugh out loud and thanks for stopping by my blog.

  13. Kim,

What a fun day! You sound just like me regarding all this. I really don't even go to our fair. There is a place in Canton, TX, you would absolute LOVE. It is once a month. It is like an outdoor sale. It has everything. I haven't been in a while, but I so wish it was a bit closer to me (or maybe not) I would be there all the time. I love to find great finds.

I'm glad you had a fab day with Ashley. Why is she going to Maui, and can I go too?

    Take care, sweet friend.

  14. Kim,

First let me say that you look like Ashley's sister, not her mother. What a fun time you two had together. I know what you mean about watching people without hope, I just experienced a training class with the same feelings. So very sad. What a reminder for me to pray for these people.
My biggest question of all is, where do I get me some of those delicious looking cookies?!?

  15. I am cracking up at the Bra? or tickets? question. Amen girlfriend! I am also laughing out loud:) despite some strange things it does look like you two had a great time. You are both so physically beautiful and having read your blog for a while I know you guys are just as beautiful on the inside. You could pass for sisters.. just sayin...
    Blessings,
    Linda

  20. Kim,
Your daughter is something special to think about taking "Mom" out. Most teenagers would rather go with the boyfriend or group of girls..... I am so glad you two had a good time. More mother/daughter memories made..... Is she off to Maui for Missions or school?
